What happens when I cross from one country to another?

Last updated: June 24, 2026

If your your travel eSIM plan covers more than one country, your eSIM will switch between local carriers as you cross borders. The switch is usually automatic, but it can take a minute or two.

What to expect when you cross a border

  • You may briefly lose signal as your device disconnects from the previous country's carrier.
  • It can take 1 to 2 minutes for the new country's carrier to attach.
  • If your data doesn't come back after a couple of minutes, turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds, then off.

If your eSIM doesn't pick up in the new country

  • Restart your device.
  • Confirm the country you're now in is actually included in your plan's coverage.
  • If it is and you still have no service, contact us with your subscription ID and the country.

Single-country plans

If you bought a plan for a single country and you've crossed into a different one, the plan won't connect. You'll need a plan that covers your new location.
