Is my device carrier-unlocked?
Last updated: June 24, 2026
Your device must be carrier-unlocked to use a travel eSIM. An unlocked device works with any carrier. A locked device only works with the carrier it was sold by.
How to check
iPhone: Settings → General → About → scroll to Carrier Lock. If it says *No SIM restrictions*, your device is unlocked.
Android / Samsung: Settings → Connections → Mobile networks. Look for a Network Lock or SIM lock status field. The path varies by manufacturer — search *lock* in your Settings search bar if you cannot find it.
Alternative for any device: Insert a SIM card from a different carrier. If you can make a call or use data with it, your device is unlocked.
What if my device is locked?
Contact the carrier you bought the device from and request an unlock. Most carriers unlock devices once your contract or payment terms are met. Processing typically takes 1 to 3 business days.
Regional exceptions
Devices sold in mainland China do not support eSIM regardless of carrier lock status. Some South Korean Samsung models are also restricted.
