My data is slow or stuck on 3G

Last updated: June 24, 2026

If your travel eSIM is connected but your data is much slower than expected, or your device shows 3G when you'd expect 4G or 5G, try the following.

Force the device to look for a faster network

  • Turn airplane mode on for 30 seconds, then off.
  • This forces a fresh network search and often picks up LTE or 5G if available.

Check your device's preferred network type

  • iPhone: Settings → Cellular → tap your your travel eSIM line → Voice & Data. Make sure 4G, 5G, or LTE is selected (not 3G or 2G).
  • Android: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → tap your your travel eSIM line → Preferred network type. Choose the highest option (5G or LTE).

Move location

Speeds depend on the local carrier we route to in that country. Coverage and speed can vary block by block, especially indoors, underground, or in remote areas. Moving outdoors or to a different area often improves the signal.

Check if the carrier supports your device's bands

Some devices only support a subset of mobile bands. If the local carrier doesn't use a band your device supports for LTE or 5G, your device will fall back to 3G. This usually only affects older devices or devices from regions with different band allocations.

When to contact us

If speeds are still slow after trying the steps above, or if you're stuck on 3G in a major city where 4G or 5G should be available, contact us with your subscription ID, the country you're in, the city or area, and a screenshot of your device's signal indicator.
