My eSIM has no data or is not connecting

Last updated: June 24, 2026

Use this guide when your travel eSIM has been installed but is not providing mobile data abroad.

eSIM not installed yet → My eSIM is not activating. Error during installation → My eSIM is showing an invalid or activation error.

Step 1 — Confirm the eSIM is set as your active data line

iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data → select your travel eSIM

Android / Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM card manager → select travel eSIM for mobile data

Step 2 — Make sure data roaming is enabled on the eSIM line

Travel eSIMs need data roaming turned on. See Do I need roaming enabled to use my travel eSIM?.

Step 3 — Check you are in a covered country

Not all countries are covered. Check your plan details or the coverage information in the app. See What countries are covered?.

Step 4 — Check your data balance

If you have used your full data allowance, data stops until you top up. See What happens when I run out of data?.

Step 5 — Toggle airplane mode on and off

Enable for 15 seconds, then disable. This forces the device to search for a local network.

Step 6 — Restart your device

Step 7 — Select a network manually

iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Network Selection → turn off Automatic → choose an available network

Android: Settings → Network & internet → Mobile network → Network operators → Search manually

Try a different network if the first one does not connect. Switch back to Automatic once connected.
